Child Development

This course focuses on all aspects of a child's growth and development from three through age six. Students will also investigate the responsibilities, education and traing of various careers in the early childhood field. Students will have the opportunity ot develop curriculum, create lesson plans and implement age appropriate activities in our on-site preschool.

Preschool Infromation

Preschool Orientation will be October 14, 2005. Preschool will start October 27, 2005. If you are interested in having your son or daughter attending Little Seahawks Preschool please contact Julia Pimental at South River.

Future Opportunities in Child Development

Students may earn the MD 90 Hour Certificate for child care needed to be senior staff in a child care center.

Students who are planning to graduate as an Early Childhood Completer must successfully complete this course and do an internship (unpaid) in a local elementary school or Diversified Occupation Work Study (paid) in a licensed child care center during the senior year.


Make-Up Assignment for a Missed Preschool Lab Day

When you are absent on a preschool lab day, you are required to complete a make-up assignment described below. Remember that make-up work must be completed and turned in within 3 days of your excused absence.

  • Reading Assignment: Reac a feture article in a recent magazine and write a summary on the article

  • Provision of Story Book for Preschool: Visit the public library and borrow three story books related to the teaching theme for the next week of preschool.

  • Learning and Teaching a New Children's Song: Learn a new song that could be used with the preschoolers then teach this song to members of the class.

  • Facilitating the Teaching Environment: Come in during lunch or after school to complete tasks related to the teaching environment of our preschool room.

  • Development of Teaching Materials: Develop teaching materials for preschool. See Ms. Pimental for specific details of this assignment.
